Life Lock Com And The Case Of The Missing Mail List
By Credit Watcher | April 7, 2008
Does Experian have ulterior motives for trying to run out of business a company with a highly successful track record of preventing identity theft? Experian have locked horns with Life Lock Com because they claim they are not happy with one of the methods used by Life Lock to protect my identity. Life Lock places a fraud alert against my credit file at each of the 3 credit bureau’s.
Life Lock do this on my behalf and with my blessing because it makes it just about impossible for someone to take out a credit agreement in my name because any such attempt would mean I am contacted. Anyone can add a fraud alert to their file and there is nothing the bureau’s can do about it. It is our legal right to put these alerts on our credit files and it should make no difference that I have appointed an expert to do it for me rather than attempt it myself. Would Experian be so quick to take out a lawsuit against my lawyer if I had paid him to act as my representative? I very much doubt it, in fact I would put money the fact but then again it’s not Life Lock placing my fraud alerts that have annoyed Experian, despite what they might claim.
What this is all about, believe it or not is my junk mail, or rather lack of it. As a customer of Life Lock they also stop my details from being sold to and included in financial mail lists. These mail lists are sold to the credit card companies, loan companies and other financial businesses. These mail lists are worth a lot of money because the list has been specifically compiled to only include names and addresses of people financially suitable. They do not want to be sending tons of mailings out with their offers to people who have a bad credit rating. They want prime solvent targets to get their claws into, people just like me.
Have a guess who sells these lists to these financial companies? You guessed it, Experian and the other 2 credit bureau’s Equifax and Trans Union and that’s the reason they want to put Life Lock out of business, nothing more than good old fashioned greed.
When I went looking for a company to prevent my identity from being stolen, Life Lock was the only company that offered this service. All their rivals will monitor your credit and report a problem or unusual activity AFTER it has happened. That is why I signed up with Life Lock, because they PREVENT and trying to stop Life Lock from doing me and all their other customers this service is disgraceful and will be seen as such by any Judge in the land. After all, the only alternative for the Judge is to remove all the good work provided by Life Lock and hand back the momentum to the identity thieves.
